Anya Violet's Birth Story

On Monday, May 2nd Anya was so active.  She is normally pretty active at night, starting around 7:00pm but this night was different.  Her movements were so startling that I couldn't fall asleep and they were causing me pain.  I was lying in bed when I realized I wouldn't be able to fall asleep because she was moving so much. At about 10:30 I decided to go into her nursery and rock in the glider chair to try to rock her to sleep.  As I rocked I reflected upon my day.  I realized I had spent little time in prayer that day, if any time at all, and even felt that I was acting as though I didn't need God.  I prayed and told God that I trusted Him with Anya's birthday.  I confessed that I think at times that I can do life on my own without His guidance and strength.  What a lie that is!  I told God how desperately I needed Him and how I can't do this on my own!  Getting right with God felt so good that night.  I needed it.  After rocking a little while longer I headed to bed, as her movements started to calm down.

At 1:50am ish I woke up with bad heartburn (strange since it had been gone for like a week) so I took a tums and put my head back down on the pillow.  Then it happened out of nowhere....my water broke.  I smacked Josh and instantly yelled "JOSH!  My water broke!" It scared him out of a dead sleep.  He asked if I was sure it was my water breaking.  I told him I've never been more sure of anything in my life!  We got changed and made sure to grab some of our last minute items (somehow forgetting all of Josh's tolietries). I wanted to rush and get there asap.  Josh wanted us to take our time and make sure we had all we needed and were ready.  I called the dr and told them the news and we were out the door.  I made sure to capture as much as possible on video.  It was great!  Total clarity that it was time!  Indeed she was waiting for the tulips to bloom.  It was such a blessing with Josh being home when it happened, plus NO traffic to the hospital:-)
We checked into the hospital aroung 3am and walked to the delivery room.  I didn't want a wheelchair- anything to speed up contractions.  At this point I was having contractions, though nothing strong.
We walked to the room, I changed into the gown and they started the monitors, IV, and got us the yoga ball.  Josh set up the laptop and started to play my favorite Christian radio station.  I made sure to stay active and used techniques from our lamaze class.  At 6 Dr. Salis came to check on me and reported that I was already 6 centimeters!  At 7 there was a shift change and I totally lucked out.  The nurse that would be assisting me during labor was the same nurse that helped me during my 28 week visit!
The doctor that was on call was Dr. Beall, whom I love because she's totally tough love.  When Dr. Beall checked my progress she said that I was probably 5 cm.  I was trying not be to discouraged, but was glad I made progress from the week prior.  At that point my contractions had not started to pick up, so Dr. Beall started me on Pitocin around 9am to speed this up.  Pitocin started at low increments to make it as natural as possible.  Around 11:00am I started "real labor".  Contractions were strong and coming at regular increments. It was amazing at how quickly time seemed to pass.  Josh was such a great coach...reminding me of what we learned in our Lamaze class.  He encouraged me to change positions (a benefit to not having an epidural).   I loved using the yoga ball!!  My father-in-law bought me a flower arrangement and I used the flowers as my focal point for some of the contractions, using my sense of touch on the petals to distract me from the pain.  My back started to really bother me once the contractions started tp pick up.  Josh used massage to help ease the pain... it didn't help too much though.  The nurse thought Anya was sunny-side up so she had me get on my knees on the bed and lean on the head part of the bed (bed was sitting upright.)  This was the most intense part of the labor and I could tell I was in transition because it didn't seem like I had a break inbetween contractions and my breathing was a lot faster.   Josh coached me to do the breathing techniques we learned "ah-hee, ah-hee, ah-hee, ah-hoo".  I remember in the midst of the pain telling myself it was natural and good pain I was feeling.  I told God I needed His strength because I couldn't do it on my own... I am too weak.  I studied some words printed on the frame of the bed.  Everytime a contraction would start, the most difficult part was getting through the first two rounds of breathing.  Josh would remind me to keep my body relaxed and that the contraction and pain would soon pass.  Once the peak of the contraction was over I remember being so happy a break was coming.  Josh would tell me to enjoy my break:-)  I remember getting a contraction where I felt like I needed to push.  I told Josh to tell the nurse.  He said let's wait until the next contraction.  When the next contraction came I felt the same urge so he went to get Michelle my nurse.  She checked my cervix and sure enough I was 10 cm and ready to push!!! I was so happy!!! It took me awhile to get actually understand when and how to push.  In the beginning of pushing I was using my legs and face too much.  The nurses and Josh reminded me to relax my face and legs as much as possible and wait to push until the peak of the contraction before I start to push.  Once I understood what I was supposed to do, pushing was so natural!  I could tell when I was making progress because abdomin would instinctivly push down with the contraction (if that makes sense).  After 1 1/2 hours of pushing I finally felt the burning ring of fire!  Most people dread the feeling and say its very painful.  I was super excited when I felt it because I knew that Anya was almost here!  The nurses, doctor, and Josh got into their scrubs and I knew she was coming!  The doctor was shocked to see how big she actually was.  Once Anya's head and one shoulder were out, Josh was able to catch her and place her on top of me!  She was precious!  It was so surreal.  We waited a little bit for the cord to stop pulsing and Josh cut the cord.  I tried nursing her right away and then she was taken to get weighed and washed.  I remember not even being able to focus my eyes because I was so worn out.  I felt like my eyes were crossed from all of the pushing!  Josh was next to her during this, meanwhile I was delivering the placenta and getting stitched up... told you she was a big baby!!  I was so happy that I was able to do a natural, no-pain/ no epidural delivery!  I felt like I accomplished something my body was designed to do!  I plan to do this with all of my babies.  It was very rewarding!!  \

Baby Update: 39 Weeks

Sitting on my yoga ball for comfort
Almost to the finish line...but who knows when we'll actually finish.  I feel so good to be this far along in my pregnancy, with minimal discomforts and symptoms!  Although this stretch seems like it will never end, we know that our little one will come when she's ready and in God's perfect timing.  I can't be pregnant forever!!  This afternoon we have a doctor's appointment so we will hear about our progress.  I will update this post after we get home from the doctor.

UPDATE:  We just got back from the dr's office.  I am dilated 4 cm, 80% effaced, and baby is at station 0!!!  We couldn't be happier with this great news!  The doctor thinks it will be within the next few days.  We'll see if she's right:-)
Pregnancy Highlights:

How Far Along: 3rd trimester, 9 months, 39 Weeks, 7 days until due date!

Size of baby: The books say she is just over 7 pounds, and measures around 20 inches (like a small watermelon)

Maternity Clothes: I'm wearing maternity shirts that I was convinced I would never fit in!  LOL!

Gender: It's a girl!!! Her name is a surprise.

Movement: I've noticed she gets more active at night around 7 pm... our little night owl!  I feel her hiccup after I eat.  I can also feel a sucking motion down where her head is- my little thumb sucker!

Sleep: Last night I slept wonderfully!!!!  I only got up once or twice!

What I miss: I can't wait to have a glass on Sangria this summer.

Cravings: Sweets!  Last night we had the instant microwave brownie with strawberry ice cream and fresh strawberries on top.  I normally don't like desserts like that but it totally hit the spot!!

Symptoms: My growing belly! A little over 43 inches below my belly button.
She dropped again (I will be so surprised if our doctor says she is at the same station as last week!)  I had "show" last Friday and noticed that I haven't had any heartburn since. Crampiness at times with more BH contractions.  Mild low backpain with the BH.  I can't wait to have the real contractions start.

Best Moment this week: Going to the Good Friday service with my hubby at CCC.  The baby was SO SO SO active during the Good Friday service that I couldn't even stand during worship.  She is so low I feel like she's going to fall out when she's so active.  My little firecracker!!  Josh's parents came over for an early Easter brunch on Saturday.  We decorated eggs and ate a wonderful brunch that his dad made.  Easter morning we attended church and then had my parents and Katie over for brunch.  It was a wonderful weekend spent with family!

Baby Update: 38 Weeks

Holy Cow!  I can't believe I'm this far along! Yesterday we had a doctor's appointment and it went great!  Doctor said she has a beautiful steady heartbeat in the 140s.  I am still dilated 2 cm, 80% effaced, and she dropped to 0 station.  The doctor's prediction is that my labor will be relatively short- 12 hours or less once I start feeling strong contractions.  I'll take it!  How awesome would that be?

Pregnancy Highlights:

How Far Along: 3rd trimester, 9 months, 38 Weeks, 14 days until due date!

Size of baby: The books say she is just about 6.8 pounds, and measures 19  1/2 inches (like a leek)

Maternity Clothes: Yes! I am wearing hand-me-downs from my cousin and friends
Gender: It's a girl!!! Her name is a surprise.

Movement: She continues to jab and poke my right side:-) She does what Tiggers do best!

What I miss: Bending over, running up the stairs, sleeping on my tummy

Cravings: Graham crackers with peanut butter and a glass of milk!!!  I could literally eat a whole box in one sitting. I haven't, but it would be so easy to do!

Symptoms: My growing belly! A little over 43 inches around my waist just below my belly button. My gums bleed and hands have gotten slightly swollen so I wear my rings on a necklace. A lot of pelvic pressure since I am carrying her so low.  There are a few others but I would never mention them on here. Ha!Ha!

Best Moment this week: Going out on sponateous date nights with Josh.  Last Friday we went to Famous Dave's.  Every week we think it will be our last date night.  We're stocking up now on dates before she comes!

Baby Update: 37 Weeks

FULL TERM Baby!!!  That's right!  Or should I say 37 weeks and one day?  Hey everyday counts, right? We are praising God for getting us to this point in the pregnancy!   We are so absolutely excited and anxiously are wondering when she'll come.  I feel great for being this far along.  I always thought I'd feel a lot more miserable but I feel really good.  God has really blessed me with a great pregnancy & has really taken care of our little one!

Pregnancy Highlights:

How Far Along: 3rd trimester, 9 months, 37 Weeks, ~21 days until due date!

Size of baby: The books say she is 6  1/3 pounds, and measures a little more than 19 inches (like the stalk of Swiss chard)

Maternity Clothes: Yes! I am wearing hand-me-downs from my cousin and friends!

Gender: It's a girl!!! Her name is a surprise.

Movement: She continues to jab and poke my right side:-)  She does what Tiggers do best!

Sleep: Last night I slept so great, waking up only twice and then I felt right back to sleep.  Thank God for nights like that.  I know I won't have any like that once she's here.

What I miss: Bending over, running up the stairs, sleeping on my tummy

Cravings: Hmmm, I can't really think of too many this week.  I think my stomach has shrunk!

Symptoms: My growing belly! 43 inches around my waist just below my belly button. My gums bleed and hands have gotten slightly swollen so I wear my rings on a necklace.  There are a few others but I would never mention them on here. Ha!Ha!

Best Moment this week: The beautiful 80+ degrees weather we had last weekend!!  And hearing great news from our doctor about how nicely I'm progressing.  Josh and I have also taken total advantage of our freedom and spontaneous dates!!  Last weekend we went out to dinner, breakfast the next morning, and then lunch later that day..... something we hardly ever do!  We also got the rest of our much-needed items off of our registry and that was a lot of fun.

Nesting for My Baby Bird

We had our 37 week appointment today and everything looks great!  In fact we are progressing very nicely.  I am 2 cm dilated and 80% effaced!  She is currently at -1 station.  I can't believe that within one week I went from 0% effaced to 80%!!!  Makes me wonder... when will she be here?  In a week or two?  Or will she like her residency in my tummy and stay there until May?

My hubby has been a huge help getting everything ready for her arrival!  He loaded up the van with her carseat, blankie, our suitcase, and my favorite accessory... the Boppy pillow.  We are all set to go, with some dry snacks packed for labor too.  We even bought our yoga ball for early labor.  Do you think we are crazy?  Well, last week after our false alarm water breaking... we realized how unprepared we actually were.  We had just gotten back from grocery shopping, we didn't know where anything was, the van was a mess & still had DJ speakers in it from earlier in the week, crockpot on the counter cooking dinner, we literally threw the carseat in...needless to say it was stressful.  I am totally the type of person who needs her ducks in a row, so now I feel as prepared as we'll ever be & hopefully a lot less stressed.

So, little bird...when will you be ready?  Our Heavenly Father already knows your birthday & I take great joy in that.  So until then, we continue to wait for you to be ready and trust in God!

Baby Update: 36 Weeks

Today I am 9 months pregnant!!!! That makes me 36 weeks with just 28 days until my due date! We had a doctor's appointment on Monday and found out that I am one cm dilated and my cervix has is still long. Yesterday night, Josh and I went grocery shopping and when we came home I thought my water broke! I called the doctor and they told me to come in to test me to see if it was my water. Josh quickly put away the groceries and we made sure we got the suitcase in the car. After four different tests, the doctor said that my water did not break yet, just the result of a 6 pound baby resting right on my bladder. How embarrassing!! We did get an ultrasound to make sure amniotic fluid levels are normal. No I am not trying to create "drama" just to see my little girl.... although it is a very nice bonus! Because she was testing the fluid levels we only quickly got to see her face, and I missed it! I was looking at her tummy because she was hiccupping. Josh saw her face and said it almost looked 3-D. He said she is absolutely beautiful! I'm so glad he saw her face since I'm the one that gets to feel her move all day every day.

Pregnancy Highlights:

Movement: She continues to jab and poke my right side:-)

Sleep: I wake up many times but I can't complain I get a good amount of sleep every night!!! The last two nights I had strange dreams... my hubby got arrested one night. Last night I had a dream that my mom got arrested! How weird is that? What does that mean that the two closest people to me got arrested in my dreams?

What I miss: Shopping and running/ walking with Charlie!!

Baby Update: 34 Weeks

Yesterday I was thinking about how crazy it is that I am 34 weeks already!  I remember earlier in my pregnancy hearing ladies that were 34 weeks and thinking... I won't be there for a long time!  And here it is!  This week Josh has been on spring break, and it has been a huge blessing to have him home with me:-)  I have definitely starting the nesting phase, and Josh has been helping me out a lot with getting things done around the house!  Josh and Katie painted the family room the other day... something we've wanted to do for awhile now.  It looks so warm and fresh!  We (or should I say Josh??) put up the pack-n-play and the baby swing that we got from Katie and Cindy at our shower.  We rearranged the family room to accomodate our new baby furniture pieces.  It is really starting to look like a baby lives in our home.  On Saturday we had our first baby shower thrown by Josh's mom in Cary.  We had brunch and received many gifts for our little girl.  It was great to see friends that we haven't seen in a long time!!  This week we had our last lamaze class.  It's hard to believe that we are finished with it already.  Now we just need to practice our breathing techniques... I'm totally going to need to rely on Josh for reminding during labor as I know I will forget!!  He will be an awesome coach!

Pregnancy Highlights:

How Far Along: 3rd trimester, 34 Weeks and 1 day= eigth month!!

Size of baby: She is 5 pounds~ the weight of a large cantalope, and is 20 inches long!

Clothes:  Hardly nothing fits me anymore!  I have to wear the same "cute clothes" when I go out because I am so limited...lol!  Hopefully spring will bring warmer temps so I will have more options:-)

Gender: It's a girl!!! Her name is a surprise:-)

Movement: She has less room to wiggle around than she used to so she can't show off anymore flip!  She continues to jab and poke my right side:-)

Sleep: The only thing waking me up at night is hubby's snoring and trips to the potty

What I miss: Hmmm....probably bending over and painting my toe nails:-)

Cravings: Sweets, sweets, and more SWEETS!  I have been craving chips too!  No wonder I've been packing on more pounds this month!

Symptoms: My growing belly!  Last week I measured it at 39 inches around my waist just below my belly button... this week 41 inches!!!

Best Moment this week: 1.) Our first baby shower thrown by Josh's mom!! 2.)  Finding out that Josh is getting tenured!!!!!!!

Baby Update: 32 Weeks

As I type my little Tigger is STRETCHING and kicking.  Her head is down (I had a dr. appointment last Thursday) back is to the left, butt is straight up, and legs & hands are kicking to the right.  Thank God that she is head down... that was so exciting for me to hear at the dr. app!!  At that appointment I saw the more relaxed dr and I thought it was going to be the typical baby monitoring and contraction monitoring.  Since these appointments typically last 45 mins I told Josh that he could meet me at the office (since he would be coming from work).  I got there a little early and they called me right away into the room.  I noticed the monitor wasn't there and the dr said I didn't need to do it since my fetal fibro test came back NEGATIVE!!!  That was so exciting to hear:-)  She measured me and said I was measuring perfect, heartbeat was loud and strong, and she said everything else looks good.  She told me that I could do light activity around the house to see if it causes any contractions.  The dr also wasn't concerned about me being dilated.  This has been so reassuring.  It's hard because since I have 4 doctors they all kind of have different philosophies and personalities.  Every doctor seems to tell me something different, or have a different approach to my situation.  I'm just thankful that I am starting my eigth month.  If she were to come now I am trusting God that she would be fine.   She received the steroid shots for her lungs a month ago, and has always measured and weighed a week advanced.  Thank you God for getting us through another week.  Thank you that she is strong and healthy!!

Pregnancy Highlights:

How Far Along: 3rd trimester, 32 Weeks, starting my eigth month!!

Size of baby: She is over 3.75 pounds~ the weight of a large jicama & is 16.7 inches long

Clothes: I am still loving comfy pants with t-shirts and always wearing my slippers!!

Gender: It's a girl!!! Her name is a surprise:-)

Movement: She is VERY active.  We call her Tigger because she is always doing what Tiggers do best:-D

Sleep: Up to this point I have been sleeping very well!
What I miss: Cleaning the house... I can tell my nesting instinct is kicking into gear!!  It's hard to do since I am on bed rest.  I try to do a few things each day.

Cravings: This week I have been craving deli sandwiches... especially the Skinny Turkey Sub from Potbellies!! YUMMY in my tummy!  And salads from Sweet Tomatoes.

Symptoms: Braxton Hicks, emotional at times, Josh said I'm starting to waddle...NO!!!!

Best Moment this week: I can't pick just one!!!  When Josh's parents came to visit me on Friday.  His dad went grocery shopping for me and brought home tons of food- including some yummy snacks- BBQ pringles & string cheese! Last Saturday I went to see Josh's musical with my family and Josh's parents.  They did Wizard of Oz and it was so good!  I really enjoyed getting out of the house.  We went to Sweet Tomatoes for dinner:-)  I also finished sewing the baby's crib bedding!!

Baby Update: 31 Weeks

I couldn't be happier to be 31 weeks today!  Each week I am just overwhelmed with God's faithfulness and how he has taken care of the baby.  Last week I had a baby appointment and the doctor redid the fetal fibro test and a cervical test.  Thank God my cervix has not changed... bed rest is working!!!  I never heard back the results from the fetal fibro test, and they normally say no news is good news so I'm assuming it was negative... another praise to GOD!!  This week the baby has started to kick my ribs, she prefers the right side:-)  She's a breech baby right now thanks to the Vitametavegamin drink for the glucose test that gave her enough energy to flip.  Does this mean that if I drink it again she will go back to head down?  I'm just praying she decides to flip soon & stay that way!!   Her kicks have continued to get stronger and I can tell the difference how between hands, and the rest of her body.  Yesterday we had our first lamaze class at the hospital.  We learned about a few relaxation techniques and that "coaches" can never go wrong with giving a massage... so true!!  Josh is going to be a great coach through labor.  We make such a great team.  Next week the nurse wants us to bring a focal point... something for us to focus on during contractions during labor.  I'm thinking I will bring the baby's little pink giraffe.

Pregnancy Highlights:

How Far Along: 3rd trimester, 31 Weeks, ending my 7th month this week!!!

Baby Update: 30 Weeks

Ahhh.... still can't find my camera!  I'm not in the best shape to be rooting around searching all over for the camera.  I'm so sad because I really want to continue my weekly picture updates:*(  I took one on my phone but can't transfer it to the computer.

Today I had a doctor's appointment and it seemed to go well. My cervix has not changed which is a HUGE blessing & shows that bed rest is working!  My baby's heartbeat was strong and healthy!  I had no contractions during the stress test which was great too!!  Tomorrow I will find out the results of the Fetal Fibro test that I had done again today.  We are praying for a negative result so that I will have two weeks of relief knowing I will not go into labor within the next two weeks.  I am going to continue bed rest for awhile... at least for the next month, if not for good.  We'll see what happens.

This week Josh and I have really been tested in our faith and trust in God.  A stressful situation is going on at his school and we are praying that he gets rehired and tenured for next year.  Please join us in prayer that he has a job for next year.  God has always provided for us and we continue to trust in Him for giving us all we will ever need!

Today is my third day of bedrest and so far so good.  I had a dr. appointment yesterday and they did some more monitoring.  My baby girl's heart looks great and the doctor said that she is a "happy baby"!  She is such a little wiggle worm... constantly moving and swimming around.  The doctor gave me a "kick count" sheet to track the number of kicks per hour, and at this point I can't even imagine counting all of them.  Thank you God for such an active and happy baby!!  Talk about reassurance!

A Bump in the Road- Baby Update: 28 Weeks 4 Days

This weekend has been...let's just say a bump in the road.  Friday night into Saturday morning I was experiencing a lot of contractions and cramping.  At around 2:30 a.m. we decided to go into the hospital to for monitoring.  Saturday early morning I was not having too many contractions.. hardly any at all (it's that how it always is...go get your car fixed and it starts working when the mechanic looks at it.  Unlike the car at the mechanic, this is a very good thing and I was very happy to see that they calmed down. I also learned that most of what I had been feeling and thinking were contractions were mostly just a lot of cramping and the result of an irritable uterus.  This girl loves kicking and stretching!!  They said I was having some contractions, but they are inconsistent and I was able to sleep right through them- another great sign.
Thank you God!

I did find out that I am dilated 1 cm, which may not necessarily be a bad thing, just something for me to be aware of.  My doctor also did a fetal fibro nectin test, which tests for a certain protein and hormone that are released before labor.  With this test if it comes back negative it means you will not go into labor in the next two weeks.  If the test comes back positive it means that there is a 50/50 chance that you could deliver before 37 weeks.  Before the results were back, my nurse told me she was pretty sure my test would come back positive, but that it would be a false positive as a result of some bleeding from the test (sorry to give you too much info!!)  And yes, the nurse was right it was postive... and hopefully just a false positive.  Because of me being dilated and the positve fetal fibro test they needed to monitor me over night and into this morning (Sunday) and I am now on bedrest, hopefully just short term until my follow up appointment with my dr. Tuesday.  This morning we were released from the hospital because there were no further changes in my cervix and baby looks good.  Thank God!  They also gave me steroid shots both days to help develop our baby's lungs in case we deliver early.

Through this I feel like God is teaching me a lot.  I'm learning about trusting in Him, even when it is difficult.  Sometimes I find myself just wanting answers...I'm a teacher for goodness sake! haha!  But I am learning how to trust God even when test results come back uncertain and when I don't have all the answers.  God is in control and will take care of us!  He is the creator of the universe for crying out loud... this little bump in the road is not to difficult for Him to take care of!

On a positve note, I did get some good test results!  Because the nurse was curious, she pushed to get early results from my 3 hour glucose test I had on Friday, and we found out
I do NOT have gestational diabetes!!  YAY!  Thank you for all of your prayers and encouraging words.
God has been so faithful in providing Josh and I with our miracle baby girl.  He truly is taking care of her.  We got another ultrasound at the hospital.  She is as healthy as ever-weighing already at just over 3 pounds. I love seeing my little girl.  She is so perfect!  God is doing such a beautiful job knitting her together!

Psalm 139:13 "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb."

Knowing that God loves my little girl, even more than I do, and knowing that He is her creator is so encouraging.  This is a good reminder for me and you too.  God loves and cares for us more than we'll ever know.  To read more about this little girl's amazing story: check out my earlier posts titled "Mist", "With God...ALL Things are Possible", and "The Significance of a Flower."  I hope that these posts and our story will bring you encouragement.
To all of you out there who are still waiting for your babies, who have had difficulty conceiving,

1 Samuel 1:27 "I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him."

or who just need encouragement I pray that these stories will bring you hope and peace.

Matthew 19:26 "With God all things are possible."

Please leave a comment with your encouraging stories or "bumps in the road" that you are going through!
I'd love to pray for you!

Baby Update: 28 Weeks

28 weeks!  That's right... we are officially in the third trimester!  It's so hard to believe that my pregnancy is 2/3 of the way finished.  This week we had a doctor's appointment and heard her strong heartbeat.  She is head down... stay that way little girl!  I had my glucose test too this week.  There's nothing better than a good Vitameatavegamin drink! haha!  After I drank it I said, "It's so tasty too, tastes just like candy ::shivers:: "  I found out yesterday that I failed the test, so today I got the same "yummy" drink and had the 3 hour long testing after the overnight fasting.  It was not fun, but I was glad I brought a book with!  We will get results on Monday and I am just praying it was a fluke and that everything is normal.  The good news is is that our baby is healthy and kicking a TON!

Baby Update: 27 Weeks

This week we survived what news reporters are calling "The Blizzard of 2011"! We enjoyed two snow days on Tuesday and Wednesday, which allowed us time to relax, take naps, bake 2 batches of cookies, and play outside with Charlie.  It was SO nice!   I am feeling my little girl's kicks stronger now... sometimes causing discomfort, but I love it!  She is over 2 pounds now and is waking and sleeping at regular intervals.  Her favorite time of the day to be awake is when mommy is sleeping.  Yes, this girl has her days and nights mixed up!!  One of my pregnancy books says that I am starting my third trimester this week, the other one says it starts next week at 28 weeks ( I'll celebrate that next week.)  This is my last week of month 6!  Yahoo!!  Now this snow needs to melt and spring needs to come quickly!

The Significance of a Flower

Is it springtime yet?  I couldn't have planned a better time to have a baby.  God's timing is so perfect!  I've always loved spring... it seems as though everything is coming back to life.  Flowers start to bloom, later sunsets, warm breezes, flip flops and dresses, and celebrating Christ's resurrection.  It truly is a season of rebirth... the most perfect time to welcome a sweet baby girl into the world!

This past weekend, Josh and I went on a random-last minute date!  We were coming home from visiting his dad at the hospital (Thank you for your prayers!) and decided neither of us wanted to cook so we went out to eat.  We figured we should take advantage of random dates while we can.  While we were eating we were reminising about when we first figured out our baby girl's name.  We were only teenagers.  Josh mentioned her name and how he thought it sounded beautiful, and I immediately feel in love with it.  We were driving in his jeep right by the lilac bushes near his parent's house, while they were in full bloom.  He told me her middle name would be Violet, named after his beloved Nanny.  I didn't realized the amazing symbolism in that evening in high school until now.  We choose our girl's name while the lilacs were blooming... it must have been early May, matching with her due date.  Her middle name being Violet the color of the lilacs.  And the significance behind the flower- every year Josh stops by those exact bushes and picks lilacs off of them for his mom.  It's so amazing to think of how this little precious girl has, in a way, always been apart of Josh and I.  We always knew we'd have a baby girl and we've been praying for her by name since we first fell in love.  God is so good, to bless us with this little girl and create such a unique, beautiful story for us to share.  And yes, her first name is a surprise:-D

Since my last post my baby girl has gone through a little growth spurt!  I'm thinking she weighs around 2 lbs, because I know she is measuring a week and a half ahead of schedule.  I feel her wiggles and moves now more than ever!  She is definitely more active at night.  I enjoy falling asleep with my hands on my belly to feel her move, although sometimes she ends of keeping me up!  There are really no new pregnancy symptoms other than leg cramps at night and bleeding gums- I am so blessed to feel as good as I do!!

I can't wait to see what she'll look like...if she'll have hair when she's born, who's chin she'll have, and get to know her little personality!  By the moves I feel, I like to think she'll be my little dancer or ice skater.

I can't wait for the lilacs to bloom!

Baby Update: 23 Weeks

My sweet baby girl has been ALL KICKS lately!  I have definitely moved out of the "butterfly" flutters.  She enjoys kicking at one hip, while tickling the other!  We like to call her Tigger.  It has been very exciting to feel more twists and turns and her movement is such great confirmation that she is doing well.
Pregnancy Symptoms:
-No cravings really... except for Sierra Mist or Sprite.  This is strange because we NEVER drink pop!
-Braxton Hicks contractions...I drink TONS of water to keep these at bay
-Very emotional...everything makes me cry and worry (even saying this makes me tear up..lol)
The verse I am clinging to everyday "Trust in the Lord always and lean not on your own understanding;  in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your path straight."  Proverbs 3:5-6
God is teaching me to not try to figure things out for myself, but to trust in Him wholeheartedly with everything.
Our next appointment is on Tuesday, when I will be 24 weeks.  More updates coming then!

P.S.  So I think the shirt I'm wearing is causing an optical illusion.  My belly looks really small here... maybe the angle?  We'll have to get a better shot next week!

1/2 Way There!!!

20 weeks 2 days! YAY!
On Wednesday we found out the sex of the baby. It was an overwhelming sense of realization & of course... I cried! The sex of the baby will still remain a mystery to family, as we are going to tell them on the most special day of the year... Christmas! So until then... my lips are sealed family!

Baby Update: 19 Weeks

It's so hard to believe that I am almost half-way there! Next week we will know the sex of the baby & I can't wait! We have both of our names picked out, now we just need to know which one it will be. This week I am feeling the baby move a lot more. Josh felt the baby kick three times the other night...we were so excited! The baby is very strong-This week I have noticed that I am starting to have some minor braxton hicks & continue to have round ligament pain. Other than that I feel great and am enjoying every moment with child! I have been feeling kicks since 15 weeks, which is early for first time mamas;-) Sometimes it is all still surreal... almost like it's a dream. I am so blessed to have a healthy baby and pregnancy. All blood tests have come back negative and the doctor's words are "Everything is perfect"... THANK you LORD!! Thank you to all of my readers and friends who have been praying for the baby and I during this process. God is answering those prayers & this pregnancy has been a huge blessing to me.

Now I need to go get ready for our Christmas party for work!

Baby Update: 18 Weeks

Last week's picture at 18 weeks (I'm now 18w6d):

I'm late on this post... as I will be 19 WEEKS tomorrow!!! I didn't get a 17 week picture since we were visiting family in Ohio for Thanksgiving:-(

Since my last post I have been feeling the baby move a lot more! Sometimes I can even feel the baby's kicks with my hands. Everytime the baby kicks I wish Josh could've felt it...he seems to miss it everytime! I think God has the perfect day planned when he will first feel the baby kick & I can't wait!
